Volkswagen Passat joins hybrid technology

This is huge news received from Volkswagen Today, one of the most loving Passat going to join hybrid technology would make its first public debut in this week’s Paris Motor Show.

In current market, both saloon and estate versions of Volkswagen Passat are very reputed and popular  for its great powerful engines and stylist look. The Volkswagen is going to launch its eight generation model  using a plug in hybrid drive system.

WHAT’S NEW IN VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT GTE (HYBRID MODEL)?

VW Passat GTE is the first plug in hybrid model by Volkswagen in Saloon and Estate body style. The Passat GTE model included with turbocharged injection petrol engine (TSI) with an electric motor. It can travel upto 31 miles in all electric mode and zero emissions as well.

All the models of Passat GTE fitted with LED headlights, driver alert system, auto post collision braking system, rain sensor as standard in all the models. The new Passat will get lower air inlet and C-Shaped LED daytime running lights and 17 inch Astana alloy wheels to identify hybrid models.

Entertainment wise, the new Passat GTE gets  6.5 inch display media includes range monitor, energy flow indicator, zero emissions statistics, e-manager and optional 360 degree feature. VW also offers optional instrument for full interactive display includes 2D and 3D view on 12.3 inch display screen.

There will be different operating modes available to drive VW GTE more better. The modes are

1) From E mode to GTE : The Passat usually driven in four different modes and driver can see on the instrument cluster.

2) Starting E mode : Upon starting the car GTE model is automatically in “E-mode”. When the minimum charge level of battery has been reached, the drive system automatically change to Hybrid (GTE) mode. Passat GTE now behaves like a classic full hybrid vehicle that charges the battery regenerative during deceleration and automatically uses the TSI and/or electric motor, depending on the situation.

Charging the battery

The Passat GTE would be charge via two ways.

First: Charge via standard charging cable into 230 volt mains electric socket. The battery is then charged by AC from the mains at a power level of 2.3 kW. From completely dead battery takes four hours and 15 minutes to charge 100 percent battery level.

Second: VW offers optional wall box for a garage or carport that charges at a power level of 3.6 kW. This method takes only two hours and 30 minutes to charge battery. There are also public charging stations that charge electric cars at a level of 3.6 kW.

With the market launch, the Passat GTE would be available in total of nine drive versions covering power range from 92KW-125PS to 206KW/280PS for European market. All the versions will meet standard Euro 6 emissions standard. After the e-up, XL1, e-Golf, Golf GTE, the Passat GTE is fifth and sixth model to be operated via electric motor with zero emissions.

The new Volkswagen Passat going to launch in UK market next year in both Saloon and Estate versions. It will become available to order in June 2015, with first deliveries to be made in October 2015.
