The new Mazda 2 wins Japan Car of the Year

The new Mazda 2 have been awarded the 2014-2015 Car of the Year Japan today ahead of its European press debut in November 2014.

Mazda have hit the home run with its new fourth generation supermini equipped with SKYACTIV technology with its striking KUDO soul of motion design. Mazda 2 is the second Mazda to capture the coveted award in three years after the Mazda CX-5 won in 2012-2013.

The judges were impressed by the car’s attractive design, new innovative features and powerful 1.5 litre 103bhp diesel engine manages CO2 emissions under 90g/km.

Mazda have worked hard by adding wealth of new technology and innovative design features including new SKYACTIV-D 1.5, new diesel engine and spacious cabin and Mazda’s safe and easy to use in vehicle connectivity concept.


New Mazda2 is slightly longer and wider than outgoing model. It features distinctive grille at the front complex creases along the doors and clean design. The bigger body delivers enough legroom, headroom and round visibility.

Apart from entry level variant, the new Mazda 2 offers class leading interior trim with the top of the range three tone seat design(cream, red a and black) uniquely designed first ever time by Mazda. It also enhances all the new driver safety technology features including blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, radar cruise control, head up display and automatic high beam assist.

With totally new stylist look, new environmental friendly engine, sporty handling and improved trim levels. Mazda stands strong in the range of hatchback class and rival of Audi A2, VW Polo, Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa.

The body contains significantly greater quantities of lightweight high and ultra-high strength steels than the body of the current Mazda2.

SKYACTIV technology

SKYACTIV technologyOne of the highlight point of Mazda 2 is its SKYACTIV technology features four engines for engines for UK market including the SKYACTIV-D 1.5 litre diesel engine produce 77KW/105PS and maximum torque of 220Nm using 3.4litre/100km of fuel emits 89g/km CO2 emissions.

Mazda 2 also be offered in petrol powered 1.5 litre engine in three variants between 55kW/75PS and 85kW/115PS. Available in five and six speed SKYACTIV manual transmission as well as six speed SKYACTIV manual transmissions.

This new Mazda2 prove a fuel efficient rival for the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa when it goes on sale at the end of 2014.

The Mazda 2 is revealed in Japan earlier in July 2014 and now is set to make it European press debut at an exclusive driving event at Mazda Space in Barcelona on 3rd November.
