The Affordable Maserati: The Executive Saloon of 2014?

April 23, 2014

When Luxury Brand Maserati brought us the Ghibli we weren’t surprised to find the same Maserati quality in this executive Saloon. We were surprised by the price however with prices as low as £48,835 to buy, making the Maserati badge quite literally open for Business as an affordable business car leasing option. Another surprise may have come to Maserati themselves when What-Car voted the Audi A3 Executive Car of The Year 2014 which won for its all round affordability. The executive Saloon market is one that Maserati certainly has to be careful stepping into as the Vorsprung Durch Technik brand has dominated the market for some time, for its affordable luxury image, popular with both executives and school head teachers alike.

This may make “the affordable Maserati” appear a little less so , but then remember you would be leasing a Maserati, and not an Audi [we are yet to see the affordable Lamborghini].
This would be the first Maserati of its kind not only with its relatively low fuel consumption  of 47.9 mpg and lowered CO2 emissions. The Maserati is also on another level of beauty with its sports car heritage evident through its sleekly designed chassis, as they are keen to point out;

“During the development of the Ghibli, one of the main aims of the designers and engineers was to recreate the dynamism and excitement of past Maserati classics”

This is where the two vehicles seperate. The Audi A3 is a fantastic vehicle and an excellent choice for Business lease, but we believe Ghibli offers something different. That is the flare of an Italian sports car. The Maserati A6GCS/53 Berlinetta of 1954 is evident in all Maseratis and more importantly in this model the Ghibli of 1967. The modern Ghibli like its forebears is sleek sporty and well proportioned both inside and out yet the Modern Ghibli also offers the simple peace of an executive Saloon.

The Saloon/ sports car status is evident in its performance. The Diesel V6 model offers a torque of 550 Nm and offers top speeds of 177 mph. This makes it a highly responsive sports car, but its also responsible, which brings us to our Saloon status. The 2 wheel drive mod is built for speed but also included is a 4 wheel drive mode, and whilst this does take the speed down an ever so small notch, it does improve fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In Short the Ghibli Deisel offers true afforadble luxury, its a sports car and a Saloon with tonnes of character and of course…. the Maserati stamp.
