Mini's future plans : Mini Coupe and Roadster will be discontinued after 2015

February 12, 2015

Mini have revealed their future plans- Mini Coupe and Roadster will be discontinued after 2015.

As we know, Mini launched their new three and five door Mini a few months ago. Both models are very popular among UK and worldwide buyers. The original ‘Mini’ was bought by German brand ‘BMW’ and received a re-launch of the marquee in the 2000s as a series of Cooper and Cooper S variants.

As the new generation Mini gets established, we will see fewer Mini models. Currently we have eight different types of Mini’s including : three-door hatch, five-door hatchback, Convertible, Clubman, two-seat coupe Roadster, Countryman and Paceman.

The company is going to reduce its products and expand the Mini 3 and 5 door range to seven engine variants.

Let’s take a quick look at the Mini Coupe and Roadster here :

The Mini Coupe was unveiled in June 2011 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. It is the company’s first ever two-seater designed for full driving pleasure. The Coupe went on sale on the 1st October 2011 and after just four years of production company has decided to pull the plug. The Mini Coupe has a great sense of style and is fun for those who want a sports car experience. The latest evidence for the popularity of the Mini Coupe is its class victory in the ‘Best cars 2015’ reader’s vote which was held by the automobile magazine “auto motor and sport”.

Mini CoupeThe Mini Roadster is the convertible version of the Mini Coupe. It was first shown at the Frankfort Motor Show in 2009 as a concept car and officially launched at the Detroit American International Show back in January 2012. The Roadster has become the company’s first open-top two-seater car.

Mini is expected to focus more on models like the hard top three and five door hatchback and the Countryman which generates most of its sales at around 75%. The two will be making room for the aforementioned MK3 models on the production lines that now have to deal with no less than seven engine choices from 1.2 to 2.0 litre engines.
