Mercedes to build its first premium pick-up truck

April 1, 2015

German brand – Mercedes-Benz have released a teaser image of a new pick-up due to be launched before the end of the decade.

The one-ton load-lugging pickup will be a new premium mid-sized pick-up from Mercedes. It will take the brand into a very healthy global market. This venture into a new market will boost the future sales potential for Mercedes. According to research company IHS Automotive, 2.34 million mid-sized trucks were sold globally last year and the company forecasts that sales could rise to 2.83 million by 2020.

“The Mercedes-Benz pickup will contribute nicely to our global growth targets.”
– Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Mercedes-Benz

A new premium pick up will provide an alternative option for those looking for a premium badge on a more commercial vehicle. Mercedes have confirmed the new pick-up will be targeted at specific markets initially, including Latin America, South Africa, Australia, and Europe.

The new pick up will be the part of the Mercedes-Benz Vans Division for the machine’s development and aims to combine typically utilitarian capabilities with the look, feel and safety of a Mercedes passenger car.

The above design sketch gives us a sneak peak at how it will look. It features a large grille, sweeping headlights,  muscular side panels and chunky wings.

At this stage, Mercedes have not revealed much more information about the actual release date and specifications. But we will keep you up-to-date with all the relevant information.

We would love to know – what do you think about the new Mercedes Pickup? Would it be the coolest Pickup ever?
