Electric Mercedes B Class opens for ordering

The B-Class electric drive – German brand’s first volume electric car has gone on sale in the UK with prices from £26,950 including government grant.

The facelifted Mercedes-Benz B-Class is now available with two petrol, diesel and electric drive too – is now available to order with first deliveries to made early 2015.

Mercedes B-Class Electric chargeUsing battery technology developed by Tesla, the B-Class electric drive has a 142 mileage range and the 178bhp electric motor allows to accelerate 0-62mph in just 7.9 seconds with top speed of 99mph. But Mercedes claims to consists all the versatility of the B-Class with five seats and same 501 litres of boot space that allows to extend up to 1,456 litres by folding rear seats down. Telsa’s advanced developed technology, makes the B-Class electric drive a fastest accelerating five seater electric car in its class.

The B-Class electric would be available in two trim ranges – Sport and Electric Art. The basic Sport model features a plenty of standard equipments such as – 17 inch alloys, new front and rear bumpers, LED daytime running lights, a seven inch touch screen, Artico trim, a reversing camera and cruise control with a choice of eight metallic paint colours. The basic Sport model starts from £26,950 after the government grant with the Electric Art commanding a £295 premium.

The second, Electric Art model gets 18 inch alloys, contrasting mirrors, radiator grille, automatic climate control, contrast blue stitching and aluminum trim. This trim is exclusively available in either cirrus white or south seas blue.

Buyers of B-Class electric version would get an optional ‘Energy Assist Package’ for £945 featuring adaptive energy recuperation systems to sense road conditions and adapt the regenerative ‘engine’ braking to suit. The package also includes privacy glass and heated windscreen to reduce load on the air conditioning system and a ‘Range Plus’ button(for occasional use) to designed to add a bit more range to battery that would normally be possible.

The B-Class Electric powered by lithium-ion batteries are tightly packaged under the floor of the car to retain its standard cabin room and boot space. The batteries can be charged through a wall box that takes between three to four hours, while using a conventional 13-amp plug takes around nine hours to fully charge from zero stats.

This zero emission electric drive version of the B-Class has been built on the success of the petrol and diesel models as the company has sold over 350,000 units of B-Class worldwide since launched.
