10 things you need to know about the all-new Kia Sorento

The third generation model of the Kia Sorento has officially gone on sale in the UK with prices starting from £26,995 as a basic list price.

South Korean brand Kia have progressed from a budget value brand to a reputable family SUV (sports utility vehicle) with its Sorento model. The new model promises the most premium characteristic yet. The Sorento is a great example of the brand; who is aiming to offer a good looking, refined and powerful SUV to the world. Plus its seven year 100,000 mileage warranty certainly helps the brand to achieve desirability goals.

1) More Spacious

Compared to its predecessor, the new Sorento is almost 95 millimetres longer and 5 millimetres wider. The extended wheelbase of 80 millimetres creates greater room in all three rows of seats. The new Sorento has a sleeker and more sophisticated look with its wide D-pillar and longer bonnet.

3) Powered by a EU-6 Compliant 2.2 litre engine

In the early stages, the Kia Sorento will be only be offered with one engine: a 197bhp (brake horse power) 2.2 litre CRDi diesel engine meeting with EU6 emission standards. Kia has offered flexibility to between a manual or automatic gearbox.

Whilst the Automatic version can achieve up to 42.2 miles per gallon fuel economy with CO2 emissions of 175 grams per kilometre. It has a top speed of 118 miles per hour and can accelerates from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 9.5 seconds.

4) A family SUV that comes with seven seats as standard

Unlike its rivals giving a choice of five or seven seats, the Sorento comes with seven seats as standard. The middle row of seats slide back and forth in a 20:40:20 split, allowing you to maximise legroom. The two seats at the back of the car are comfortable and decent in size, offering a relaxed journey for your kids.

At the centre of the dashboard, the large central screen is surrounded by brushed-aluminium plastic that gives a suitably upmarket image. All the controls are logically placed for easy of use.

The panoramic sun roof with blinds is available as one of the standard features on the 2015 Sorento KX-3 and KX-4 models. The full length panoramic roof provides a spacious feeling and natural light.

7) Choice of four trims

The Sorento range offers a choice of four trims to its buyers from the entry level KX-1 to the KX-4. All Sorento models come with an impressive line-up of advanced safety kit.

 The entry level version model comes with LED daytime running lights, black cloth upholstery, driver’s seat adjuster, leather trimmed steering wheel, electric windows, remote central locking, CD player, trip computer, anti-lock braking system, stability assist, hill-start assist, intelligent all-wheel drive as standard.

The KX-2 is the most preferable model and comes with automatic lights and wipers, leather upholstery, satellite navigation, heated seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone air-conditioning and a reversing camera.

The KX-3 model benefits from a panoramic glass sunroof with blinds, bright xenon headlights, a larger dashboard touch screen, a power-operated tailgate, a premium stereo and lane-departure warning. The top of the range KX-4 model comes with ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, a 360 degree camera system and a blind spot warning system.

8) Intelligent all-wheel drive system comes as standard

The all-new Sorento is built with a permanent and intelligent all-wheel drive system as standard. It is a perfect combination for the powerful diesel engine, which can tow up to 2,500 kilograms weight. The intelligent all-wheel drive system is paired with advanced traction control and trailer stability assist on all models to enhance off-road credentials.

9) Sorento has maximum safety levels

The Sorento is one of the most important models for the brand and the company has maximum safety levels. Before it hits UK markets, the Sorento was tested by EuroNCAP organisation and has achieved an excellent full five star safety rating.

The Sorento secured the five stars with an impressive 90 percent score for adult occupants and 83 percent score for children – amongst the best scores in the class. The pedestrian safety scores were 67 percent and 71 percent for the safety assist – that sounds pretty good.
